The Church in the Heart of Liverpool
By Dr. Bryan Cowling
St Luke’s Anglican Church in Liverpool in 2020 celebrated 200 years of continual ministry to the people of Liverpool.
It commissioned one of its parishioners to research and write a comprehensive history of the building and the communities that have met within it over those two centuries.
The author has had an association with the area since 1968 as a history teacher at Miller High School, and from 1999 to 2007 as the founding principal of Thomas Hassall Anglican College in Middleton Grange.
The 268 page A4 size coffee-table book with over 200 colour images has received a high commendation from the Archbishop of Sydney (Dr Glenn Davies), the Mayor of Liverpool (Mrs Wendy Waller), the MP for Liverpool (Mr Paul Lynch) and noted historians, the Rev Dr Peter Bolt, the Rev Dr John Harris, and Mr Neil Keast.
